The inspirational Margaret Jervis and Richard Morgan recently announced their retirement after dedicating a lifetime to supporting people, communities and causes in Wales.
Husband and wife, Margaret Jervis and Richard Morgan have retired after some five decades working in the voluntary sector in Wales. The couple recently announced their retirement from Valleys Kids, a community development charity in Rhondda Cynon Taf that they were instrumental in building ‘from the ground up’.
They retire having left a lasting legacy for the communities, individual and organisations they’ve supported.
SUPPORTING LOCAL ACTION
Margaret and Richard laid the foundations for Valleys Kids in 1977 with the Penygraig Basement Project which aimed to help young people at risk of getting into serious trouble.
They then oversaw its expanse into areas such as play, youth work, the arts, community well-being, and therapeutic approaches. With their support, Valleys Kids grew into a the impactful charity it is today, changing the lives of thousands and, through understanding and responding to local needs, empowering individuals, families, and communities.
BEING A VOLUNTARY SECTOR ADVOCATE
We’re especially grateful to Margaret for her support for the sector and for the work of WCVA. Margaret joined our board in 1995 where she served as trustee and then, from 2005, joint Vice Chair until she stepped down in 2014.
Margaret played a key role in a number of WCVA initiatives including our social investment work as Director of Social Investment Cymru from 2010-2015.
AN IMMEASURABLE CONTRIBUTION
WCVA Deputy Chief Executive, Matthew Brown said:
‘Margaret and Richard are a real power couple, we can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done in support of the voluntary sector over the course of many, many years – their contribution is immeasurable!
‘We wish them a happy and healthy retirement, it’s thoroughly well-deserved.’
