Wales Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards (WEDSA) stands as a pioneering initiative in Wales, singularly focused on showcasing the accomplishments of ethnic minority athletes.
THE AIM OF THE AWARDS
Wales Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards serves as a platform that casts a luminous spotlight on ethnic minority athletes, allowing them to radiate as inspirational figures and role models within their respective communities.
We want to contribute to Sport Wales’s vision of an active nation where everyone can have a lifelong enjoyment of sport and create a vibrant society where individuals of all ages can derive lifelong pleasure from sports. Ensuring that sport is accessible, inclusive and affordable, leaving no one behind.
AWARD CATEGORIES AND CRITERIA
Volunteer of the year
Recognises an individual who has shown exceptional dedication and made a significant impact in promoting ethnic diversity and inclusivity within the sporting industry through their volunteer work.
Personality of the year
Recognises an individual who is highly valued within a sporting community, club or activity within diverse communities.
Sportswoman of the year
Recognises a female sportsperson from a diverse community who continuously stands out in their chosen sport.
Sportsman of the year
Recognises a male sportsperson from a diverse community who continuously stands out in their chosen sport.
Inspiring individual of the year
Recognises an individual who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, mentoring, or coaching skills.
Young person of the year
Recognises an individual who is under 18 years of age and their Sporting achievements gained by the athlete over the last 12 months.
Club of the year
Recognises and celebrate outstanding success, development or significant achievement in the last 12 months for a team or club.
Outstanding contribution to sport
Recognises an individual who has shown exceptional work and made a significant impact in promoting ethnic diversity and inclusivity within sports.
Community sports project of the year
Recognises a project that has provided sport and physical activity opportunities to engage ethnically diverse communities.
Coach of the year
Recognises a coach who has demonstrated excellence in coaching, while actively fostering inclusivity, mentorship, and equal opportunities for athletes from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
Inclusive sport award
Recognises a project that has been breaking barriers in sport.
Lifetime achievement award
Recognises an individual whose commitment to sport has stamped an indelible mark on the industry and will have made a significant contribution to Welsh sports.
