Each quarter we’re focussing on the diverse activities of one of our members. In this blog, AbilityNet explain how their services might be able to help you and the people you work with.

WHO IS ABILITYNET?

AbilityNet is a charity committed to creating a world where people of any age and with any disability use computers, the internet, and other digital technologies to achieve their full potential.

We do this by providing specialist advice services, free information resources and by helping to build a more accessible digital world. With over 20 years of experience, you are in expert hands.

HOW CAN ABILITYNET HELP?

As a charity AbilityNet exists to change the lives of older and disabled people by helping them to use digital technology. Our vision is a digital world, equally accessible to all. We offer a number of services that support a wide range of people.

AbilityNet offers a free helpline so you can speak to us for technology advice and information, or if you have any questions about disability and technology to request our help. Simply call 0800 048 7642 to talk to us.

We have over 350 Tech volunteers, including a growing number in Wales. Our friendly and trustworthy team are waiting to help and support you whether it be over the phone, via a remote connection, or in person at home if there is someone nearby. Our volunteers can help with a range of tech problems, from setting up technology, resolving issues, to showing you how to connect with family and friends or surf the internet.

For example, our volunteer Jayne who lives in Newport has recently been helping an older lady Ann to shop online. With a home visit to install the Amazon, Coop and Morrison’s Apps, Ann is now happily ordering her weekly shop online, and all ready to tackle her Christmas shopping!

With help from experts, we have also developed a wide range of free online resources including factsheets, webinars and My Computer My Way, a unique series of step-by-step guides to the many ways you can adjust your laptop, desktop, tablet or smartphone, including changes to your keyboard and mouse.
