Understanding your governing document

16 April 2026
10 am – 12 pm | Cardiff

Delivered through the medium of English

1 x 2 hour session / classroom

Delivered by WCVA’s Trusted Associate Hugh James

Aims

Participants will be given the opportunity to better understand their governing documents, what it requires the trustees to do, and any limitations imposed by it.

Content

The trainers will discuss the different types of clauses which are typically found in charity governing documents. After a short presentation on each type of clause, attendees will be given the opportunity to find and consider the clause in their own charity’s governing document and consider whether that particular clause is still fit for purpose or whether it should be updated.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course participants will have learned/be able to:

  • Have a better understanding of their charity’s governing document and any provisions which need to be reviewed or updated.
