Aim
To equip learners with the skills and knowledge to develop fundraising from individuals, by understanding the different individual giving practises and understanding what motivates people to give.
Content
This is an introductory course for those new to individual giving and covers the importance of individual giving practises, what motivates people to give and help to develop your organisations strategy and case for support for fundraising from individuals.
Session One
- Introductions and identifying participant attitudes to individual giving.
- Why individual giving?
- What is individual giving- distinguishing between different fundraising income streams.
- Differences between different types of individual giving and any relevant rules eg Gift Aid, HMRC tax relief on payroll giving, gambling law.
- Practical exercise – matching benefits for the organisation, benefits for the donor and accompanying legislation.
Session Two will focus more on key tools, for example:
- SWOT – what position is your organisation in – what are the best individual giving income streams to develop in your organisation.
- Understanding resource and planning what investment is needed to develop individual giving.
- Knowing which suppliers you may need to use.
- How to cascade information to your trustees.
- Signposting for to wider resources.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this session, learners will:
- Understand what is ‘individual giving’
- Understand the different types of individual giving
- Develop a range of tools to support effective planning
- How to make an individual giving plan
- Know where to find additional resources to support their learning.

Those who are new to individual giving and are looking for an introduction to the topic.
Course requirements

- Training will commence promptly, please arrive ten minutes prior to the start time, as late arrivals may not admitted
- Our courses are interactive and engaging and we request where possible, that all learners have camera’s on and participate via microphone and chat facilities
- Let us know upon booking if you have any specific requirements ie BSL interpreters
- Joining instructions and resources will be sent through LUMA our online booking app, please enable notifications from LUMA to be kept up to date
