Steve has been active in Welsh civil society for over twenty years and is passionate about social justice and environmental sustainability. He is an executive director of Sustrans, the green transport charity, overseeing the charity’s UK external affairs work as well as all aspects of the charity’s work in Wales.
In 2001, he was elected President of the National Union of Students in Wales and secured the re-introduction of student grants.
As chair of climate advocacy group Stop Climate Chaos Cymru, Steve led a coalition of NGOs which successfully changed Welsh Government policy on carbon reduction targets.
Working with the youth sector Steve played a leading role in securing political support at the 2016 Assembly elections for votes at 16, and worked on the early development of the Well-being of Future Generations Act.
In 2017 Steve became the first winner of the WCVA Walter Dickie Leadership Bursary, studying urban sustainability in Copenhagen and Oxford.
Steve also founded Heads Up, an informal network of civil society leaders in Wales. He lives in Grangetown and splits his time between Cardiff, Bristol and London.
