Edward Watts, WCVA board member

Trustee

Edward is a strong advocate for the voluntary sector. He has been involved as a volunteer for over 50 years so brings to the WCVA Board years of experience.

Edward currently holds a number of trustee positions across a wide range of sectors. He is also a governor of a school in Newport.

Edward has experience of working within a corporate setting. He has built up a network of contacts within local authorities, local health board, Gwent Police, British Transport Police and Newport Police Division and sits on the Ethnic Leaders forum.

One of Edward’s strengths is his passion for the third sector. Edward holds the positions of Chair on the GAVO Executive Board, Gwent Scouts and The Mission to Seafarers Newport branch. He has been appointed as Patron of The Merchant Navy Association – City of Newport Branch, LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity and has recently been made the Patron of The Mastering Diversity CIC. Edward is passionate about Community Cohesion across Wales and is involved in promoting Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI). He raises community cohesion issues through his role as a member of the Independent Advisory group to Police forces. He is one of the WCVA Trustee Board representatives on the WCVA EDI Committee. Through his roles he has successfully advised on a range of funding and Governance issues, to ensure the sustainability of the organisations he represents.

Edward has been awarded an MBE and is a Deputy Lieutenant of Gwent. He is also a member of the WCVA Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism Committee.
