WCVA’s Health and Care Project has published a new report on the importance of the voluntary sector to health and care in Wales.
THE REPORT
Why the third sector matters to health and social care in Wales is the third in a suite of recent papers exploring the links between, and importance of the voluntary sector, volunteers and the statutory sector to health and care outcomes.
This latest paper pulls together key findings from research to explore actions stakeholders can take to maximise the sector’s impact on health and social care.
It explores:
- Background to the paper
- The current context around statutory health and care in Wales
- The current context to the sector’s role in health and care in Wales
- Current pressures on our health system
- Sociological considerations
- Voluntary sector support for health and care outcomes
- Sustaining and developing the voluntary sector’s role
RECOMMENDATIONS
It also offers a number of recommended actions, including:
- Recognising the differences between the statutory and voluntary sector, and within the voluntary sector itself, as a strength
- Undertaking a communications campaign to increase public and political awareness of the benefits the sector delivers within health and social care
- Supporting voluntary sector organisations to diversify income in a suitable manner
- Ensure the sector has the chance and the means to full contribute to social value forums
- Promote recognition that co-working that co-working between the voluntary and statutory sectors is based on more than financial exchange, including sharing of knowledge, experience or premises
- Empower all parties to recognise and play their unique and essential role as part of a complex ecology of health and care in Wales
