Floods are devastating Pakistan, leaving millions in need of urgent help to survive. The Disasters Emergency Committee campaign is appealing for donation to support the response.
Floods are devastating Pakistan. People are dying and around 30 million are affected. More than a million homes have been destroyed or badly damaged, leaving many homeless and exposed to the elements. People need food, clean drinking water and shelter.
Entire villages have been swept away. The government of Pakistan estimates that a third of the country – an area the size of the UK – is underwater. Schools, roads, crops and livelihoods are gone and conditions are expected to worsen as the rains continue.
The risk of waterborne diseases is high, with a lack of proper sanitation compounding the problem. There have already been reports of cholera in the wake of the floods. Although easily treatable, cholera can kill in hours and can rapidly escalate into a major health emergency if left unchecked.

DEC CHARITIES ARE DELIVERING LIFE-SAVING AID
The DEC brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of crisis overseas.
Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) member charities are already on the ground providing life-saving aid either directly or through local partners. But they urgently need more funds to reach more people.
The immediate priorities are providing temporary shelter, emergency food support and clean drinking water. DEC charities are coordinating closely with the local authorities and UN agencies to help in ways that best address the needs of those affected.
