Mapping the social business sector in Wales

Published : 09/05/25 | Categories: Information & support | News |

Social businesses have a positive impact on both Welsh local communities and the economy.

SOCIAL BUSINESSES IN WALES

Every two years since 2014, Cwmpas has been monitoring the development and growth of social businesses across Wales through their biennial survey. This research has helped to understand the challenges and opportunities of the sector and identify opportunities for targeted support.

Are you a social business based in Wales? If so, we invite you to participate in this year’s survey.

THE OUTCOME

The information gathered will help build a picture of the social business sector and demonstrate the impact it has across Wales.

This research has several aims, which include:

  • Conducting a health check of the sector to identify any challenges and opportunities that businesses face.
  • Mapping the size and scale of the sector and how this has changed since the last survey.
  • Developing a directory of social businesses to provide more targeted support to social businesses in Wales.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

The aim of this survey is to gather as many views from a variety of social businesses across Wales. The short survey will be split into two parts:

  • The first part can be completed online and asks general questions about your social business.
  • After this, respondents will be invited to complete additional questions via a telephone call with a researcher to gain a deeper understanding of your perspectives on some of the challenges and opportunities faced.

The final reported results will be anonymised, hoping to encourage views to be shared freely.

To help track and monitor responses, your business name and company number will be required where relevant. The handling of personal information is taken very seriously and will follow strict protocols for handling data.

For further information, please take a look at the privacy notice.

All businesses that complete the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win two free tickets to the Social Business Wales Awards and £50.
