Following engagement with people from across Wales, we’ve launched a new network to give trustees the opportunity to meet with peers, stay informed, and access discounted training.
At WCVA we exist to enable voluntary organisations in Wales to make a bigger difference together. Trustees are of course the heart and soul of Welsh voluntary organisations.
They are volunteers who have been legally entrusted to ensure that a charity acts solely for its beneficiaries’ best interests, that it invests responsibly and complies with charity law and regulation requirements.
We noticed that information is often shared with the CEO of an organisation, but training and guidance are not necessarily promoted to the people with the greatest responsibility, the trustees.
ENGAGING WITH TRUSTEES
We decided to use a coproduction approach and work with trustees to get their views on whether a trustee network would be useful and how it could be developed.
We worked with 50 trustees from across Wales, using participatory approaches to understand the barriers and opportunities available to them.
All the people we spoke to were enthusiastic about a trustee network. They suggested that the network should include:
- Webinars
- Training
- A trustee news bulletin
- Opportunities for peer support
- In-person trustee meetings
- Online discussion sessions
- Access to resources
YOU SAID, WE DID
Following our engagement session we have stayed on script and created a Trustee Network that will include all of the above for those that join.
The aim of the network is to connect trustees and enable them to be fully informed and confident in their role.
Membership of the Trustee Network is free.
