The global day of giving

Giving Tuesday takes place on 3 December 2024, a great opportunity to get involved in a global campaign and gather more support for your organisation.

Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the last decade, this idea has grown into a global movement that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Giving Tuesday is the perfect opportunity for organisations to:

  • Engage with current and new donors,
  • Launch or shine a spotlight on your Christmas or end of year fundraising campaign,
  • Raise awareness of your services,
  • Celebrate your fantastic donors and volunteers, or
  • Share stories from your beneficiaries demonstrating your impact.

It’s all about celebrating the amazing work you and other voluntary organisations do, day in day out, year after year, to help those in need and to make life better.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

In 2020 Giving Tuesday set the world record for the most money raised online for charity in 24 hours, with donations worth £20.2 million raised in one day. 1.5 million people say they would be more likely to do something for charity as a result of Giving Tuesday.

It is estimated that over £20 million was also raised on Giving Tuesday 2022 within the UK. With Giving Tuesday trending No.1 on Twitter we saw prominent messages of support from the Minister for Civil Society, Stuart Andrew MP, as well as NatWest, high-street companies, and England Men’s football captain, Harry Kane.

RESOURCES

The Giving Tuesday campaign has created resources for organisations to use if you’d like to get involved. Check the Giving Tuesday website for the resources toolkit, as well as recordings of training sessions that might help you to make the most of the campaign, such as ‘Digital Marketing for Charities’ and ‘Using Canva like a pro’. They also have Welsh language assets and a dedicated Welsh language section of the Toolkit, making it easier for charities here in Wales to make the most of the campaign.

SHARE YOUR OWN MESSAGES

You don’t have to sign up anywhere to get involved, or even use the resources provided, you can develop your own messaging around celebrating your donors, supports and volunteers if you wish.

Find the campaign on social media using #GivingTuesday, or via Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn or Instagram, for the latest news, tools, and graphics for your campaign. Be sure to tag Giving Tuesday in your posts to have your messages shared by the campaign.
