We are pleased to announce that a new round of the Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme (LDTCS) is now open for applications.

The Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme (LDTCS) funds projects near certain waste transfer stations or landfill sites, with a focus on:

  • biodiversity
  • waste minimisation and the reduction of waste to landfill, and
  • wider environmental enhancements.

The scheme is now open for applications for grants of between £5,000 – £49,000.

If you have a project idea which would benefit the community, check out your eligibility by visiting our LDTCS webpage and using the map to see which sites are eligible.

DRIVING POSITIVE CHANGE IN COMMUNITIES

The previous rounds of LDTCS have funded a wide range of inspiring projects, empowering people to take action to improve their local environment.

With support from LDTCS, Groundwork Caerphilly explored innovative ways to combine conservation, heritage animal breeds and community wellbeing through their Power Ponies project.

The project tackled the decline of Welsh Mountain ponies by showcasing their value in managing invasive scrub and boosting biodiversity. Four ponies and their handlers were trained to perform land management tasks such as bracken bashing, log hauling and harrowing, providing an eco-friendly alternative to machinery.

The ponies impressed handlers, vets and physiotherapists with their skill and agility, helping control invasive species, improve biodiversity and keep paths clear for local people. Their work also reduced the risk of hillside fire, earning praise from the Fire Service.

If you want to find out more about the projects we have funded, have a look at our Landfill Disposals Tax Communities Scheme Annual report.
