2024 leadership bursary winner announced

We’re pleased to reveal that Cindy Chen, Head of Communications and Engagement at ProMo Cymru is this year’s Walter Dickie Leadership Bursary winner.

The Walter Dickie Leadership Bursary is awarded annually to someone in a leadership role within a voluntary organisation in Wales. The annual award grants £2,500 to support an individual in Wales to become a better leader.

OUR 2024 WINNER

The 2024 Walter Dickie Leadership bursary winner has been announced, many congratulations to Cindy Chen of ProMo Cymru for being our chosen leader this year. Llongyfarchiadau Cindy!

Cindy, Head of Communications and Engagement at ProMo Cymru plans to use the bursary to pay for a study trip to Singapore, to meet with national agencies and speak with professionals to find out how they’re using technology to work with young people.

By visiting Singapore, Cindy’s hoping to answer some important questions, including ‘how is Singapore different? What is it that Singapore is doing that countries like Wales could learn from? Are there any similarities in our journeys and experiences?’.

PREVIOUS WINNERS

The bursary is managed by our Social Investment Cymru team and since 2017 has funded:

  • A study visit to Copenhagen for lessons on sustainable transport
  • A community gardening learning exchange in Montreal
  • Network building and information sharing in the arts sector
  • Several leadership development courses such as the Enterprising Leaders course with Social Enterprise Academy Cymru
  • A game-changing trip to Hollywood for inclusive film charity, TAPE Community Music and Film
  • A study trip to Canada to learn first-hand about refugee employment services for Welsh Refugee Council

MORE ABOUT CINDY

Cindy is a senior leader and experienced project manager at ProMo Cymru, whose role is to communicate, design and build with young people and communities to make change happen. Cindy leads a team of 12 members of staff, developing and delivering youth-focused projects and services.

During her time in Singapore Cindy plans to arrange meetings with the National Youth Council, People’s Association Youth Movement, SINDA Youth Club and MAJU Singapore. Cindy wants to learn about their initiatives and explore the reasons that Singapore has ranked first of 183 countries for youth engagement and development in The Commonwealth’s Youth Development Index.
